Tax office open

The Columbia County property tax division of the Tax Commissioner's Office is now open in its new Evans location.

The office moved from Appling to Building C of the Columbia County Government Complex, 630 Ronald Reagan Drive. Starting Tuesday, the office will be open at its Appling location, 1959 Appling-Harlem Highway, on Tuesdays only.

The Appling office's phone number is 541-1808, and the new Evans phone number is 261-8299.

Auditions held

Stage III will hold auditions for its next production, Last of the Red Hot Lovers, at 7 p.m. Monday at 517 Granite Pointe Drive in Martinez. There are parts for one man age 40-plus, and three women ages 20-50. The show will run the last weekend in February. For more information, call 868-9663.

Walking program

Relay kickoff

Harlem will officially kick off its 2004 American Cancer Society Relay for Life Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Woodmen of the World building. Anyone interested in participating should attend and the public is invited.

Columbia County employees and residents are invited to the Fifth Annual Columbia County Emergency Management Agency Winter Blood Drive with the Shepeard Community Blood Center from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 29

The drive will be at the Columbia County Government Center Auditorium (Building A), on Ronald Reagan Drive in Evans.

During the winter, blood donations decline sharply because of the holidays and a shortage of donors. More than 4 million Americans would die this year without life-saving blood transfusions. Donating is easy, takes very little time and saves lives, local officials said.

Last year, there were 121 donors at the winter blood drive who helped hundreds of people in the community.

All donors will be treated to Mot's Barbecue and will receive a special National Volunteer Blood Donor Month T-shirt.

Empty Bowl

The Augusta Jewish Community Center, 898 Weinberger Way, will hold the annual Empty Bowl luncheon 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 22. The event, a fund-raiser for Golden Harvest Food Bank and the AJCC, features pottery bowls made by art students at local schools.
