Firefighters vouch for county's need for fire tax

I continue wonder why the citizens of Columbia County feel the way they feel regarding the fire tax. So far I have seen a lot of people who question the whole purpose of this tax, and ask why will their money be 'wasted' like the 'stormwater tax.'

I am a firefighter for Appling Fire Department, soon to be known as North Columbia Fire Rescue, and the 'waste' that all these people talk about must be all the brand-new materials that the money will buy for the fire departments.

This money is going to be used to purchase new things like fire apparatus, firefighting gear, education materials for the youth of the county and new stations. Along with these things, the money will be used to improve the quality of fire service for the county as a whole.

A lot of people need to speak with a firefighter and get the whole understanding of this tax.
