Travel team seeks player

The Grease Lightning 12-and-under fast-pitch softball travel team needs to fill one spot on its 11-player roster. This player must be disciplined, committed and be able to compete at a high level. Parents must be willing to commit as well. To schedule a tryout call Lynn Masters at 869-1408.

Lakeside soccer honors

The Lakeside High School women's soccer team has achieved the NSCAA/Adidas Girls High School Team Academic Award.

A total of 259 high school soccer teams (104 boys, 155 girls) from throughout the country have earned the award, which is based on exemplary performance in the classroom as a team during the 2002-03 academic year. To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.

The Lady Panthers sported a cumulative GPA of 3.64. Lakeside coach Donny Rogers will be presented with a plaque at the NSCAA national convention Jan. 17 in Charlotte, N.C.

Softball tryouts

The Augusta Flash 14-and-under fast-pitch softball travel team is looking for players for the 2004 season. Players can be age 15 after Jan. 1, 2004. If you are a dedicated, experienced player looking for a fun and competitive team, and would enjoy playing against some of the best travel teams in Georgia and South Carolina, please contact Jeff Towe (868-8485) or Vicki Parker (854-7711) for tryout information. The team will be holding tryouts this Saturday.

Baseball camps

Winter baseball camps are being conducted at Hardball Warehouse in Evans. Camps will be each night during the week, and players can choose when to attend.
