Football standouts from Augusta Christian Schools recently reaped rewards for their work during the 2003 season after the Georgia Independent Schools Association announced its postseason honors.
Augusta Christian seniors Adam McKinney and Cole Rabun made the GISA Class AAA all-state team, and senior Lions Dan Wiley and Sam Pitts were honorable mention all-state selections.
McKinney was named all-state defensive end and punter. Along with being a top pass-rushing threat, he averaged 42.3 yards per kick, and also led the Lions at quarterback.
Rabun made the squad as a running back by amassing 1,302 yards rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground this fall. He added 16 receptions for 215 yards and three touchdowns to help AC post an 8-3 record.

Wiley was his team's top receiver, and led all area independent school players with 26 receptions. He totaled 311 yards and five scores.

Pitts, a defensive lineman, finished off a solid career with 127 tackles and nine sacks during his senior campaign.
McKinney and Rabun made the GISA all-state team last year, as did Pitts.
The Lions also had their share of all-region honorees in 2003, which was a chore because AC competed alongside Region 1-AAA and Class AAA state champion George Walton Academy this past season.
All-Region 1-AAA selections for Augusta Christian were McKinney; Rabun; Pitts; Wiley; Marcus Paschal (junior linebacker); Dan Wiley (senior wide receiver); Sam Pitts; and Chad Cooper (senior offensive lineman).
AC's honorable mention all-region players were Daniel Whinghter (senior lineman), William Lyon (junior lineman), Drew Snelling (senior running back), Andrew Fisher (senior defensive back/receiver) and Dwight Banks (senior defensive back).
Rabun received additional postseason recognition by being named to the Georgia team for the Georgia-South Carolina All-Star game. That contest was played this weekend at Presbyterian College.
