It's hard to believe nearly eight months have passed since the horrible tragedy that claimed the lives of Daniel Hall and Shane Williams.
The Greenbrier High School golfers were killed in a golf accident last April while traveling to compete in a team match at Rocky Branch Golf Club near Lincolnton.
Their memories remain, and their legacy will be kept alive at the Brierpatch, thanks to a project to erect a memorial golf practice area at Greenbrier.
The plans are in place, and you can help this worthwhile effort.

Through December, many area golf courses will have donation boxes placed in their pro shops. Donations will provide a boost for the memorial fund.
Over the next few weeks, when you go out to play a round of golf, remember this terrific cause and drop a donation in the box. If you don't see a donation box, ask the golf-course personnel, and they will point you in the proper direction.
The practice area in memory of Daniel and Shane is being funded solely by donations, so the cause needs the generous people of our area to come on board.
Also, the facility will not be limited to Greenbrier students. Other area prep players will be allowed to schedule practice sessions at the Brierpatch as well.
The practice area will feature an approximately 2,500-square-foot synthetic putting surface, which will include three to five holes. There will be two primary tee boxes, with shots ranging from 40-45 yards to 55-60 yards.
There also will be two sand traps.
The cost of this project is in the $25,000 to $30,000 range, so any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Following is a list of participating businesses, plus information for those who would like to make a direct contribution. Remember, the donation boxes will be out for all of December:
Aiken Golf Club; Applewood; Augusta Municipal Golf Course (The Patch); Forest Hills; Goshen Plantation; Houndslake Country Club; Jones Creek Golf Club; Pine Ridge Golf Club; The River Golf Club; Three Oaks Golf Club; Woodside Plantation; The Bagel Factory in Evans.
