Undelivered IRS checks await some residents
The Internal Revenue Service has released a list of names whose refund and child tax credit checks were returned to the agency as undeliverable, typically because people have moved but not reported their address change to the IRS or the U.S. Postal Service.
Taxpayers have until Dec. 5 to claim their undelivered refund checks from this summer's advance child tax credit before having to wait until they file their tax returns next year.
The IRS is holding nearly $48,000 in undelivered checks for Columbia County residents. The checks range in amounts from $2 to $14,099.
Taxpayers can track the status of their refund and child tax credit and see if the IRS is holding a check in their name at the Web site, www.irs.gov. They also can call the IRS at (800) 829-1040 to update their address.
