Sub grad

Navy Seaman Recruit Robert H. Haag, Jr, son of Teresa and Robert Haag of Evans, Ga., recently graduated from the Basic Enlisted Submarine Course at the Naval Submarine School in Groton, Conn.

During the six-week course, Haag learned the basic theory, construction and operation of nuclear-powered submarines. Haag also learned shipboard organization, damage control and submarine safety and escape procedures.

Haag participated in hands-on training with reality simulators, practicing firefighting and flood control on board a submarine. Haag also learned about a submarine's basic hydraulic, water and air systems, and practiced escaping from a simulated sinking submarine.

Haag joined the Navy in February 2003.

Dean's list

Billy Byler of Martinez was named to the Dean's List at Trevecca Nazarene University for the 2003 spring semester. He is the son of Billy Byler and a graduate of Augusta Christian School.

Byler, a junior mass communications major, is a member of the forensics team and the Trevechoes newspaper staff. He works as the assistant sports information director at Trevecca. Byler is planning for a career in sports broadcasting.

Travecca Nazarene University is located in Nashville, Tenn.

Valdosta honors

Erin Patricia Perry of Harlem has been named to Dean's List for summer 2003 at Valdosta State University. To make the Dean's List, students must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.0 with a semester average of at least 3.66, with at least 10 hours of course work.

Tung Van Le of Grovetown graduated in the summer of 2003 from Valdosta State with a bachelor of science degree in biology.
