The Lakeside Panthers Athletic Association will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lakeside High School. All members are encouraged to attend.
Recreation registration
The Columbia County Recreation Department will hold 2004 basketball and winter soccer registration, starting Monday and continuing through Nov. 1. Registration is at the Patriots Park administrative office only. Hours for registration are Monday through Friday Oct. 13-24 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Oct. 27-31 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday, Nov. 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration forms are available on the Web site www.co.columbia.ga.us.com. Youth soccer camp
TST Soccer will sponsor a youth soccer camp at Patriots Park on the following days: Friday, Oct. 17; Monday, Oct. 20; Tuesday, Oct. 21, and Wednesday, Oct. 22. Camp options and fees are: half day, $25, from 8 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 4 p.m. (four-day price is $90); full day, $40, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (four-day price is $150). The camps are for ages 5-14. Campers must bring a sack lunch for full-day camp. Pre-registered four-day campers receive a free TST T-shirt. To register, call 294-5033 or tstsoccer@knology.net.
Benefit race
A two-day racing event has been scheduled Oct. 17-18 at CSRA International Speedway (formerly Gordon Park Speedway), with a percentage of all proceeds going to benefit the Children's Miracle Network. The gates open at 5 p.m., with races starting at 8 both nights. For more information contact Randy London at 798-3944.
Fall Family Fest
Mistletoe State Park will hold its Fall Family Festival on Oct. 18. The evening will be filled with activities. The festival begins at 5 p.m. with music, followed by a hayride, apple-bobbing, marshmallow roasting and a pumpkin scavenger hunt. Campfire stories begin around 7 p.m., and later in the evening there will be a night hike.
Visitors may spend the weekend in the campground and participate in a Halloween decorating contest. The contest is open to all campground guests, and the winner will be awarded a two-night stay in a Mistletoe campsite.
Also, on Friday, Oct. 17, storyteller Tina Hall will entertain camping guests with tales around the campfire.

Baseball showcase
The 2003 Southern Prospect Baseball Showcase will be Oct. 25 and 26 at Patriots Park. On Oct. 25 (Saturday), the showcase is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Oct. 26 the times are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The showcase is for players ages 13-15, and the cost to participate is $165 per player. Activities include a pro workout session from a top coaching staff; a clinic; showcase games; and scouting for the USA National team.

Hall of Fame award
The Columbia County Recreation Advisory Board is presently accepting applications for the third annual Columbia County Recreation & Leisure Services Department Hall of Fame Award. Applications will be accepted until Oct. 30.
The Recreation & Leisure Services Department will receive one or two individuals, groups or businesses for induction, whom have either come through the program or had direct impact on the department. Inductees each year will be enshrined with a picture and plaque of their accomplishments placed at Patriots Park Gymnasium Complex.
Nominations may be made from the general public, the Recreation Advisory Board or the Recreation staff. Individuals submitting nominations must provide a typed page bio on the individual, group or business. Nominations must be typed with number 12 type and double spaced. The Recreation Advisory Board will review all applications and select one or two inductees at its November meeting.
Individuals must meet the following criteria for induction: individual must have played, coached or worked with the department at least four years; individual must have made a direct impact on the recreation program, while either playing, coaching or working with the department; individuals that have participated within the program must have gone on to establish themselves in an outstanding way; a business or group must have had a direct impact on a specific program or the department for at least five consecutive years; and a meritorious nomination may be made with approval of the Recreation Advisory Board and the Board of Commissioners.
