Straw hats. Frilly hats with lace. Red hats. White hats.
Hats of all shapes and sizes were the focus of a special tea party Aug. 30 at Gospel Water Branch Baptist Church in Evans.
Female members of Gospel Water Branch held their second annual Pretty Hat Tea in the church's fellowship hall. The event featured skits, music and fellowship.
"The sisterhood of the church wanted to do something that would appeal to women of all denominations and ethnic backgrounds for fellowship," said Jodey Edwards, a member of the church and one of the event's organizers. "All women like to look pretty. This was a chance for all of us to get together, get pretty and enjoy some Christian fellowship."

Edwards said she estimated between 50 and 75 women participated in the hat party. She said she hopes the tea will one day become an event for Christian women throughout the community.
"It's grown beyond the boundaries of our church already, but I want to see it grow even more," she said. "I want to be something that all women look forward to every year."
