Cheerleading clinic
The Evans High School Cheerleading Clinic will be Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the high school. The cost is $40, which includes a T-shirt and a snack. Participants will get to cheer at the Evans football game Sept. 26 at Blanchard Stadium. The clinic is limited to the first 60 girls, and pre-registration must be completed by Sept. 15. Lacrosse season
The Aiken-Augusta Lacrosse Club's fall season begins with practice for men and women, minimum age 15, at noon Sunday at Citizens Park in Aiken. No experience or equipment are required. For information call Curt Gary at 733-4271.

Tennis lessons
Petersburg Racquet Club in Martinez will offer free tennis lessons Saturday. These lessons are for beginning players or for people who have not played in a long time. Juniors, ages 18 or under, are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., and adults are from 10:30 a.m. to noon. You do not have to be a member of Petersburg to attend. This program is part of the USA Tennis 1-2-3 Program. Petersburg will offer a six week follow-up program for interested adult players beginning Sept. 18, and junior clinics begin Sept. 20. Softball tryouts
The Dominators 14-and-under girls fast-pitch softball team is holding tryouts on Saturday. The tryouts, which are for the fall 2003 and spring/summer tournament seasons, are at Patriots Park softball complex and begin at 9 a.m. Players cannot turn 15 before Jan. 1, 2004. Tennis tournament
The 2003 Banana Open Tennis Tournament will be Sept. 11-14 at Petersburg Racquet Club. Players will compete for the opportunity to qualify for the Banana Open Challenge to be held Oct. 3-5 at Hilton Head Island.
Divisions are Men's and Women's Singles and Doubles from 2.5 through Open divisions. Mixed doubles division will be 2.5 through Open; women may play one level lower than their NTRP rating. Winners from each division qualify for the Banana Open Challenge.
The cost is $30 for the first event, and $15 for the second. The deadline for entry is Saturday at 6 p.m. Entry forms are available at all CSRA tennis facilities. For more information, contact Petersburg Racquet Club at 860-9288.
