Swimmers earn honors
Greater Augusta Swimming member Katie Croft was recently recognized as an all-star by Georgia Swimming. The Columbia County athlete received the award for recording times that placed her in the top 15 percent nationally among swimmers from her age group.
Also, Columbia County GAS members Tom Northcutt and George Patton were honored by United States Masters Swimming for their finishes in the top 10 in several events in their age group.
Competing in the 35-39 age group, Northcutt had four top-10 finishes in yards pools (ninth in the 50-yard backstroke and 100-yard individual medley, 10th in 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley), and three top 10s in short course meters pools (fourth in 50-meter backstroke and 400-meter individual medley and eighth in 100-meter individual medley).

Patton posted top-ten finishes in the 40-44 age group (ninth in 100-meter backstroke and sixth in 200-meter breaststroke).
Evans athletics
Evans High School will hold an athletic open house from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the school commons area. All students, parents and community members interested in athletics at Evans are encouraged to attend. The new gym floor and other improvements will be highlighted.
