County hires new principals at five schools

There will be some new faces at the helm of several Columbia County schools this year.

New principals include:

- Harlem Middle School: Walker Davis is the new principal at Harlem Middle School, replacing Geoffrey Schlichter, who will teach physical education at South Columbia Elementary School this year. Davis has been assistant principal at the school for the past five years.

- Grovetown Elementary School: Robert Boyd, a Danville, Ind., elementary-school principal, replaces retired principal Joan Moore. Boyd has served 27 years as his school's principal and moved to Georgia to be near his son, who lives in Atlanta.

- Greenbrier Elementary School: Jonathan Pike, who has been principal at LaFayette High School in Walker County, Ga. since 1994, replaces Charles Henderson, who resigned at the end of the school year. Pike served three years as an assistant principal and started his teaching career in science in 1988.

- Evans Elementary School: Joy Quinn, the school's assistant principal, replaced retired principal Amy Wright.

- Bel Air Elementary School: Mark Boyd, who has served as the school's assistant principal for the past three years, has been named principal, replacing Mike Doolittle, who transferred to become Lewiston Elementary School's new principal.
