Harlem orientation

Harlem High School will offer an orientation session for junior and senior students and their parents.

Planning the Journey: A High School Student's Road Map For Success will be Tuesday, July 29, at 7 p.m. at the school's auditorium.

Also, new student registration will be July 29-30 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m.

Food distribution

The Golden Harvest Food Bank's manna truck will distribute produce to people in need at 9 a.m. Saturday at Gospel Water Branch Baptist Church, 703 Furys Ferry Road, Evans.

The produce is available on a first-come, first-served basis to anyone in need.

Church luncheon

Cathy Lee Phillips, author of Silver in the Slop and Gutsy Little Flowers, will be the guest speaker at Lewis Memorial Methodist Church's Sisters in Christ luncheon Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon.

Lewis Memorial is on Columbia Road at Hereford Farm Road.

The event, sponsored by Ladies Heart to Heart, will be in the fellowship hall and will be open to women of all ages. Tickets cost $6 and seating is limited. For more information, call Gail Johnson in the church office at 863-6795.

Republicans meet

The Columbia County Republican Party will hold its monthly meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday at Piccadilly Cafeteria on Washington Road.

Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, chairman of the House Republican Caucus, will be the guest speaker. Rep. Johnny Isakson and Herman Cain, both candidates for Georgia's Senate seat currently held by Zell Miller, also are scheduled to attend.

Mother's Day Out/Preschool

The Catholic Church of the Most Holy Trinity is accepting registration for its Mother's Day Out/Preschool Program scheduled to begin Aug. 18. If you have children who are walking through the age of four, please contact our P.R.E. Office at 722-4944, ext. 315, for more information.

Senior activities

The Bessie Thomas Community Center, 5913 Euchee Creek Drive, Grovetown, offers daily events for county residents ages 55 or over including bingo Tuesdays and Thursdays, ceramics and other arts and crafts, trivia, devotionals and field trips.

Transportation to and from the center is provided by the county's Rural Transportation Department. Call in advance to schedule the ride. All rides and center activities, not including trips, are free.

Taste For Life

Taste for Life, a Bible study-based weight-loss program, will be at Wesley United Methodist Church on North Belair Road on Monday mornings from 9:30 to 11 a.m. beginning Aug. 11, and on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 7:30 p.m. beginning Aug. 13. Farmers sought

Main Street Augusta is seeking farmers and vendors in the Central Savannah River Area to market home-grown and homemade products in downtown Augusta on Saturday mornings from August to October.
