Advocate training
The Court Appointed Special Advocate Program of Child Enrichment Inc. is looking for volunteers, 21 and older, to advocate for abused and neglected children in the juvenile court system. Volunteers need no experience and will receive specialized training from local professionals in the social service field. Participants will learn courtroom procedure and advocacy skills.

Online permits
The Georgia Forestry Commission's Columbia County Unit, who issues burning permits in person and by telephone, now offers them online. Visit www.gfc.state.ga.us and follow the directions.
The only burning material the permit covers is leaves, small limbs and pine straw. The legal burning hours are from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.. The permit is only for notification purposes as homeowners are still responsible for any liability issues the smoke or fire may cause.

The commission also offers assistance with outside burning and evaluations of homes that could be in a potential line of fire.

Marvin United Methodist Church has formed a new group called Prisms for Singles or "single again" people in the Augusta area. The group is not a dating service, but it is expected to expand into a large group to give people a place to get together with others in a casual Christian atmosphere. Harlem history sought
Harlem's newly created Historic Preservation Commission is seeking photographs and historical information on homes in the city that are at least 50 years old. Korean War veterans meeting scheduled
The Korean War Veterans Association, Sgt. Harold F. Adkinson Chapter 225, meets monthly at 2 p.m. on the third Saturday in the Burnettown Town Hall, S.C. Highway 421, Burnettown, S.C.

The Grovetown Museum Board of Directors is seeking donations of military memorabilia with ties to Fort (Camp) Gordon for a special display depicting the historical relationship between the fort and Grovetown.
