At left, the Martinez-Evans Rotary Club honored Dr. Evelyn Browne (from left), Anna Harris, Charles Haywood and Col. John E. Pirkle with outstanding community service awards. Their awards were, respectively, the Jean Harris Award, for Browne's founding of the Its Spooky to be Hungry food drive; the Outstanding Young Person of the Year, for Harris' community service; the Vocational Excellence Award, for Heywood's selection by the most students as the "teacher who offered the most inspiration" by more STAR students than any other teacher in Columbia County; and the Lee Arrendale Award, given to Col. Pirkle as the Rotarian who best represents Rotary ideas through work in club, vocation and community. At right, Lisa and April Fern (front, from left), and Melissa Youngblood (back, from left), Diana Stephens and Andrea Keeler each won a $1,000 Rotary college scholarship. Holly Gindlesperger, the sixth scholarship recipient, is not shown.
