Evans High physicals

Evans High School's fall sports athletes are asked to have physicals done July 9 at 6 p.m. The physicals will be done at 3624 J. Dewey Gray Circle near Doctors Hospital. Athletes can meet at Evans at 5 p.m. if they need a ride to the doctor's office.

Dixie Boys advance

The Columbia County Recreation Department Dixie Boys all-star team won the district title with two wins over the Thomson all-stars last week at Patriots Park. Columbia County cruised to 16-1 and 9-2 victories to clinch a spot in the Dixie Boys state tournament later this month at Riverside Park.

In the district tournament, Nolan Belcher and Josh Grant pitched Columbia County to the game-one win, while Belcher (2 for 3) and John-Clark Huffman (2 for 4, with a double) led the way at the plate. In the second game, pitchers Brandon Cumpton, Kevin Millward and Michael Hester combined to one-hit Thomson.

Volleyball clinic

The Augusta Junior Olympic Volleyball Club is playing host to a clinic July 31 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Family Y on Wheeler Road. Cindy Robarge, head coach at Coker College, will conduct the clinic. Prizes will be awarded in various categories. The cost is $25, which includes a T-shirt. Running club

Power Runners USA is a summer running club for high-school athletes. Training is three days per week, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m., and Saturdays at 9 a.m. The club's objective is to prepare runners for the fall cross-country season. Olympian Mike Burley leads the club and incorporates fun and cross-training in the program. For club fees or more information, call 650-0978.
