Fire meeting

The Leah Volunteer Fire Department is playing host to a meeting July 22 at 7 p.m. at Station 2 on Burks Mountain Road to discuss the draft of the Columbia Conty Fire Services Study.

Patriotic speaker

The Military Order of World Wars presents Col. John Belser, United States Staff Judge Advocate, to open the Independence Day celebration at 6 p.m. Patriots Park on Friday.

Landfill holiday closing

The Columbia County Baker Place Road landfill will be closed Friday, July 4, and Saturday, July 5, in recognition of Independence Day. The landfill will reopen at 6 a.m. Monday, July 7.

Vacation Bible School

Columbia County Christian Church will hold Vacation Bible School for children ages 3 through fifth grade at 404 Prescott Drive, Martinez, July 20-24 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. To register or for more information, call 863-6973.

Michaels art camp

Michaels Stores Inc., an arts and crafts retailer, will play host to the annual Summer Arts and Crafts Camp on July 7-11 at the store, 211 Robert C. Daniel Jr. Parkway. There will be two daily sessions: 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. for 5- to 8-year-olds and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. for 9- to 12-year-olds. The theme is It's a Jungle Out There.

Anniversary celebration

Gospel Water Branch Baptist Church will celebrate its 123rd anniversary on July 13. The celebration begins July 9 with a 24-hour prayer-a-thon, followed by a Senior Banquet and Recognition Ceremony on July 10, and the church's picnic is scheduled for July 12. On July 13, the Rev. Frederick Favors of Springfield Baptist Church in Thomson will preach at the 2:30 p.m. anniversary celebration. For more information, call the church at 860-7091.

Mother's Day Out trial

The Church of The Most Holy Trinity will offer a free trial day for its Mother's Day Out Program on July 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Children eligible for the program should be able to walk and no older than 4. If you are interested in the program, call the Parish Religious Education Office at 722-4400 for more information. Spaces are limited for this day and you must register your child before July 18. Substitute teacher positions are available.
