Columbia County has one more feather in its cap.
Columbia County's human resources department was given the Large Agency Award by the Georgia Local Government Personnel Association. The award goes to the top county human resources department in the state with 500 or more employees.
"This is a highly-treasured award," said County Administrator Steve Szablewski. "It's the biggest award that can come to a government's human resources department in Georgia."
The department received the award last week and were recognized during Tuesday night's board of commissioners meeting.

"They were so busy they didn't even go to the conference (to pick up the award)," Szablewski said, adding the award is especially significant because the winner is chosen by other human resources departments in the state.
Management Services Director Todd Glover said the award recognizes the human resources department's "extreme commitment" to the county's employees.
"Our employees are our most important resource," he said.
Human Resources Manager Marcia Lowry said the award is a testament to the work of her staff.
"They are so capable and they work so hard," she said.
