Daffin featured

New Columbia County Economic Development Director Zack Daffin will make his first public speech since accepting the position at the Columbia County Republican Party monthly meeting Saturday at 9 a.m.

The meeting will be at Piccadilly Cafeteria at 3110 Washington Road. A breakfast buffet will be offered for $5.

July 4 celebration

The Patriots Park Fourth of July Celebration will be at the gymnasium, soccer fields and baseball complex of Patriots Park from 3 to 9 p.m.

The Independence Day event is free and features 13 amusement rides, Noahs' Ark Petting Zoo and Pony Rides, a children's wagon parade and contest, a performance by Shiloh, an Independence Day Ceremony, lots of food and the largest fireworks display in the area.

Parking will be at the Columbia County Merchants Association Fairgrounds with handicapped parking inside Patriots Park.

Landfill holiday closing

The Columbia County Baker Place Road landfill will be closed Friday, July 4, and Saturday, July 5, in recognition of Independence Day. The landfill will reopen at 6 a.m. Monday, July 7.

Youth and Graduates Day will be at Gospel Waters Baptist Church in Evans today at 10:45 a.m. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Beverly Ashley of Williston, S.C.

Blood drive

The fifth annual Columbia County EMA Summer Holiday Blood Drive is scheduled for Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Columbia County Government Center Auditorium.
