Hardy meeting

The Oliver Hardy Festival Committee of Harlem will meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be at The Laurel & Hardy Museum on North Louisville Street. For more information, call Kathy Ham at 556-3448.

Sierra Club

Henry Frichknecht, arborist with Empire Tree Care, will talk about caring for your trees during The Sierra Club's monthly meeting on June 17 at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will be at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Walton Way Extension. Mother's Day Out

The Mother's Day Out Program for West Acres Baptist Church is taking registration for the fall program. The program is for children ages 18 months to 4 years. For more information, call 863-2542.

Free food delivery

The Golden Harvest Food Bank is distributing food to the Gospel Water Branch Baptist Church on Saturday, which the church will delivery free to anyone in need in Columbia County. The delivery of perishable produce is anonymous. For more information, call David Titus at 556-8090.

Council meeting

Stevens Creek Elementary Schoolwill hold its first school council meeting at 5:30 p.m. June 30 at the school, 3780 Evans-to-Locks Road.

Cooling centers

Two cooling centers have been opened by the Columbia County Emergency Management Agency.

Columbia County residents without access to air conditioning are encouraged to use the centers, which will remain open through September.

The Bessie Thomas Community Center at 5913 Euchee Creek Drive is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily and features a sitting room with a television, ice water, ice cream, and soft drink and snack vending machines.

The center at Patriots Park, 5445 Columbia Road, is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. The center features a sitting room with ice water and television.

Anyone who needs transportation to either of the cooling centers may call the Columbia County Public Transit at 556-0308. For more information, call the Columbia County EMA office at 868-3303.

Time Out

The First Baptist Church of Evans' Time Out Luncheon will be Thursday.

The event is a time of prayer and music, delicious food and fellowship around the tables. Cafeteria-style Lunch begins at 11:50 a.m. with a menu of fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, green beans, coleslaw and dessert

Cost is $5 per person. Reservations are required by Wednesday. The person who brings the most first-timers will receive a free-lunch coupon for next time.
