Lenore LaVine of Martinez has been named a Visual and Performing Arts scholar and was awarded a Charlotte Raphaelson Alumni Achievement Award at Syracuse University, N.Y.

Kristen Owens of Martinez, a student at Evans High School, recently enrolled in the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine.

Seth Franklin Easton of Evans has graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Environmental Science from Tusculum College, Greenville, Tenn.

Meredith LeAnn Russell of Evans was one of three students to receive the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship at Clemson University, S.C.

Military News

Navy Ensign Colin S. Monk, a 1999 graduate of Lakeside High School, recently was commissioned upon graduation from the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps Program with Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Unit, Tulane University, New Orleans.

Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Jeremy D. Bell, a 1996 graduate of Evans High School and son of Sharon J. and Ronny D. Bell of Grovetown, recently returned from the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Donald Cook, based in Norfolk, Va.

Navy Ensign Christopher B. Hogan, a 1999 graduate of Evans High School son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. Hogan of Martinez, recently graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and was commissioned to his current rank.
