The following poem was written by my stepdaughter, who is soon to be a senior at Evans High School. It is in memory of the students who were killed this year from Columbia County schools.

Way too soon

Life is short, Life is sweet, Tomorrow may never come,

I never believed these words were true until tragedy hit my classmates and friends

and lives were taken way too soon.

They were young and innocent with bright futures ahead,

but now they will never see graduation or a wedding day,

though its very sad to say.

They will never again be football stars or cheer the team on at games.

They will never again walk through the halls at school or hang out with their friends.

They will never win a golf match or dance at prom again.

Their lives were taken way to soon, in a very tragic way.

So Shane and Daniel, Brad and Keith, this poem is for you

and for all the others whose lives ended way too soon.

You will always be here with us deep in our hearts,

we will never forget you, from us you will never part.

So have fun up there in heaven and tell Jesus we said hey,"

and know that you are with us every single day.

And whenever anyone reads this, I know they will think of you,

and they will wipe a tear from their eye and know you are in a wonderful place

and that you are looking down, watching over us everyday.

And if anyone learns a lesson from this, may it be, that life is short but sweet.

For you are the proof that a life can be tragically taken

and ended way too soon.
