SCUBA Bible school

Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Augusta will hold Vacation Bible School June 9-13 from 9 a.m. to noon for children ages 3 through fifth grade. The theme is SCUBA - Super Cool Undersea Bible Adventure.

Writing competition

Entries are being accepted in fiction, nonfiction, poetry and playwriting categories for the 10th annual Porter Fleming Writing Competition, named for Augusta philanthropist Porter Fleming.

Writers in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina and South Carolina are eligible. Entries must be postmarked by June 16. For more information, call Melanie Borcher at the Greater Augusta Arts Council at 826-4702.

Mother's Day Out

The Church of the Most Holy Trinity is now accepting registration for the Mother's Day Out/Preschool Program to begin August 18 for children walking through four years of age. For more information, call the P.R.E. Office at 722-4400.

Courthouse Run

The Blue Knights Georgia IV Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club's "Courthouse Run" (Poker Run) to benefit Child Enrichment - The Shelter & Advocacy Center for Abused Children is scheduled for Saturday.

The first bike will leave from the U.S. District Courthouse in Augusta at 9 a.m. The last bike leaves at 11 a.m. The route runs by Edgefield, McCormick and Columbia county courthouses. Final stop is the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.

Writers meet

CSRA Writers will meet Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Barnes & Noble Booksellers on Augusta West Parkway. Writers needing a support group are invited to attend and bring 10 copies each of manuscripts to be critiqued. For more information, call Lela Turnbull at 738-4114.

Scout golf tourney

The Georgia-Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America will hold its 17th annual Alltel Boy Scout Golf Classic on Monday, June 9, at Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Club. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., with a box lunch at noon. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner will follow the tournament.

The cost is $500 per foursome or $150 per person, which includes lunch, unlimited practice on the driving range, 18 holes of golf, an awards reception, an auction and tournament favors.
