Brassell honored
Amy Lynn Brassell was recently inducted into the Alpha Chi Delta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Augusta Technical College. Brassell, majoring in cardiovascular technology, is married to Tim C. Brassell of Martinez.
Dean's scholar
Shannon Rene Paitsell, of Evans, has been named a dean's scholar at Piedmont College for the recently completed spring semester. Students selected as dean's scholars have earned a grade-point average of 4.0 for the semester.

Kenneth Dixon, of Harlem, received a bachelor of science degree in sports studies-administration during Reinhardt College's 119th commencement last month.
Evans student earns honors
Zachary Paul Winsett, of Evans, graduated cum laude from Macon State College as a dean's list scholar on May 9 at the Macon City Coliseum. Winsett also was named to the college's president's list for the Spring 2003 semester, where he had to carry nine semester hours and at least a 3.8 grade point average.
EHS grad makes FSU dean's list
Jessica Crouse, of Martinez, was recently named to the dean's list at Florida State University. Crouse, a senior industrial engineering major, is a 1999 Evans High School graduate and the daughter of Tom and Joni Crouse of Martinez.
Prep senior earns scholarship
Rebecca Koger, a recent graduate of Augusta Preparatory Day School, was awarded a Wofford 1854 merit scholarship at Wofford College, Spartanburg, S.C. Koger is the daughter of Marty and Susan Koger of Windmill Lane, Evans.
Berry College names Dean's List
Six area students were recently named to the spring 2003 semester dean's list at Berry College, Mount Berry, Ga., which requires at least a 3.5 grade point average on at least 12 course hours.

Greer Ann Smith, of Augusta, a Theatre major and daughter of Gregory and Patricia Smith.

Jessie Lee Smith, of Augusta, an undeclared major and son of John Smith, Judy Ann Graben Smith and Jimmie Coolidge Graben.
Christy Deason Hill, of Evans, a psychology major and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Knight Hill.
Joshua Roberts Lee, of Martinez, a Religion and Philosophy major and son of Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey R Lee.
Martinez student makes dean's List
Jessica Stokely, of Martinez, was recently named to the dean's list at Emmanuel College, Franklin Springs, Ga., for the 2003 spring semester, which requires a 3.6 grade point average on a full-time course load. Stokely, daughter of Ricky and Jeanette Stokely of Martinez, is a 2001 Evans High School graduate and plans to be an elementary school teacher.
UGA student earns honors
Desirae Marie Domenico, of Martinez, was inducted in the Beta Kappa chapter of Kappa Delta Pi on May 4. Te society is an international education honor society that recognizes scholarly achievement, outstanding professional and personal standards and a commitment to excellence in the education field.
Domenico, daughter of Debbie and Jerry Domenico, is a graduate student at the University of Georgia pursuing a doctorate degree in education.
Local middle schools win bread contest
Local middle school participated in the first annual Spirit Sandwich Contest sponsored by Derst Baking Co. on May 3 at Augusta Mall. Harlem and Riverside middle schools tied for first place.
The nutritional sandwich building contest was open to all schools who had to create a nutritional sandwich using Capt. John Derst's Bread and a school-spirited name for it. They were judged on nutritional value, name, presentation, school spirit and taste.
The Harlem team, made up of Shaundra Hawthorne and Lee Kent, made a sandwich featuring wheat bread, chicken breast, ham, bacon cheese and vegetables. The Riverside team who made the sandwich including peanut butter, cream cheese, banana, strawberries, apples and blueberries, was made up of Jasmine Brown, Sara Dean, Kim Linton and Ellie Paschal.
