Thomson-McDuffie County residents: clear your calendars for Saturday, June 14. The annual Beach Blast, sponsored by the Thompson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce, and Family Fun day, sponsored by Partners for Success, will be held that day.
Beach Blast
This is the fifth annual Beach Blast event, and Chamber Director Carolyn Gilbert thinks it's a great way to spend a summer evening.
"You bring your own cooler, chairs, and you come out and have an evening of good fun," she said.

The Grapevine, a Macon band specializing in music from the late 1960s to the early 1980s, will be performing.
The Beach Blast begins at 7 p.m. at the old Heilig-Myers building in Thomson on Washington Road, and the tickets are $15 each. They're available for purchase at the Thomson-McDuffie Chamber of Commerce and First National Bank. For more information, contact Carolyn Gilbert at 597-1000.
Family Fun Day
While the Beach Blast may be oriented toward adults, with its dancing and relaxed atmosphere, Partners for Success' Family Fun Day is designed for all ages.
"We're going to have a bunch of games for the kids - a field day competition, horseshoes, and sack races for the kids and we hope that will be a lot of fun," said Julie Miller, Associate Director of Partners for Success. "The concession stand will be open, and five percent of the proceeds from that are being donated to Prevent Child Abuse McDuffie County, and we're really looking forward to that."
Miller added that there will be a moonwalk, a magician, and clowns to entertain the younger crowd as well. There will be several fields dedicated to softball, and she is still accepting team applications, Miller said. There will also be a Club Car raffle. Raffle tickets are five dollars each. The event is free and begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m at Sweetwater Park. For more information, contact Julie Miller at 595-0467.
