Beale named head coach at Evans
The Columbia County Board of Education recently named Billy Beale to replace Evans High School head football coach Coley Cassidy after he resigned to be the head coach at Westside High in Augusta.
"I was surprised and hated to see Mr. Cassidy leave, but I am pleased to be appointed to this position," Beale said.

Despite much of the team returning this year, Bale admits it will be difficult to beat last year's record.
Beale is a graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and the University of Georgia, where he played football, basketball and baseball. He also played professional baseball before entering coaching in 1953 at Jefferson High School in Jefferson, Ga.
Local Jaycee elected U.S. director
Morgan Allen, a five-year veteran of the Martinez-Evans Jaycees, was elected a United States Jaycee director Saturday at the state convention of the Georgia Jaycees in Jekyll Island.
As director, Allen will be assigned two regions in the Georgia Jaycees and will be responsible for many of the statewide programs. He was one of 14 applicants for the position.
Allen has served as director, treasurer, first vice president and president of the Martinez-Evans chapter and secretary-treasurer and president of the Seventh Region Jaycees.
Allen was named Jaycee of the Year for two consecutive years and was awarded the Region Presidential Award of Honor for 1972-73.
County preschool announced
The Columbia County Board of Education recently announced a Title 1pre-school summer program will be available to students entering the first grade in the fall. The program will be held for six weeks beginning June 9 Belair, North Harlem and North Columbia elementary schools.
The program is designed for 300 educationally deprived children. Eligibility depends on pre-registration test results.
