Make plans for site in case Fort Gordon closes

Editor:

Because our nations leaders may decide to close Fort Gordon in 2005, we need to start planning now for how to take advantage of the facilities at the base.

Augusta State University and MCG, which are both landlocked, should be standing at the front of line to claim the property. Dorms (think 20,000 students), classrooms, another teaching hospital (cancer research building?), recreation facilities, and other first-class facilities (water/sewerage) would be available for the schools and the general public use.

Lets lobby hard for the base to remain a integral part of our community, but start planning for how to convert the facilities to public use if need be.
