Re Sundays letter from Charlie Johnson, "Cover-up of sexual misconduct at Greenbrier High "isnt over, and the May 4 News-Times editorial, Lack of action allowed assaults:
How involved is Johnson as a parent at Greenbrier? Do you know your daughters teachers and administrator? I am the school safety officer for Lakeside High School, and my opinion is based on firsthand experience from working in the Columbia County high schools for the past eight years.
There is no coverup! Decisions are made daily, more than Johnson can imagine, on how to handle the many situations that occur in our small cities. Most times these decisions are made with parental input. Not all parents want the police involved. As school safety officers, we work very hard to fully cooperate with the Sheriffs Office. We would never intentionally not notify them in an effort to cover up anything.

There are laws in place to protect both the victim and suspect. One day these very laws could protect your child if he or she were accused of a crime.
Every student has the right to a free public education. There are also privacy laws which do not allow us to discuss student discipline with anyone other than the parent of that child.
Why is Dr. Sandra Carraway still at Greenbrier? Because they are very lucky to have her! She has more integrity than anyone I have ever met in my 42 years. She is a caring, moral, Christian mother who has only the students best interest at heart. That is my opinion both professionally and personally. I would entrust each of my three daughters to Carraway without hesitation because they dont make them like that anymore.
And to News-Times Publisher Barry Paschal: Shame on you for printing an editorial insinuating what you did. I thought you had better sense than that.
