Columbia County newsmakers

Baker Edwards Hatcher, son of Randy and Marilee Hatcher of Martinez, has been selected salutatorian for the Class of 2003 at Fork Union Military Academy in Fork Union, Va. Baker is an honor graduate who served during his senior year as captain of the varsity soccer team and indoor soccer team, and as a member of the varsity golf team and the National Honor Society.He also was the only student selected to represent Fork Union at Presidential Classroom in Washington in March. Presidential Classroom is an organization that presents civic education programs featuring members of Congress, presidential appointees, journalists and other Washington insiders.
