Columbia Middle elections

Columbia Middle School is holding an election of two parent representatives for the school council at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, in the school's media center

Any parent of a pupil who will attend the school next school year and would like to be placed on the ballot, or would like more information on the council, can call 541-1252.

Family Y gymnastics

The Family Y summer recreational gymnastics session is scheduled for May 19 through Aug. 1. The 10-week session features classes for boys and girls from toddlers to teens held once a week in the air-conditioned Wheeler Gymnastics Center, 3532 Wheeler Road.

Coed beginner and intermediate tumbling and trampoline class are available for cheerleaders and rhythmic gymnastics for girls ages 6 to 12.

Scout golf tourney

The Georgia-Carolina Boy Scouts of America will hold the 17th annual Alltel Boy Scout Golf Classic on Monday, June 9, at Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Club. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with a box lunch at noon. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner will follow the tournament.

The cost is $500 per foursome or $150 per person., which includes lunch, unlimited practice on the driving range, 18 holes of golf, an awards reception, an auction and tournament favors.

Mother's Day Out

Saint Mary on the Hill Catholic Church on Monte Sano Avenue is holding fall registration for the 2003-04 Mother's Day Out Program for children ages 6 months-4 years on Tuesday, May 20th, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at St. Anne's Hall. Sierra Club

Gwen Wood will discuss what local Greenspace programs offer citizens. The Sierra Club welcomes the public to hear about their Greenspace program at 7:30 pm., on Tuesday, May 20, at the Unitarian Church on Walton Way Extension. For more information call 863-2324.

Cardiac arrest

The American Heart Association's annual Cardiac Arrest event will be held at the Columbia County Courthouse from noon until 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

During the event, volunteers will be "jailed" until they can make bond - a donation to the heart association. For more information, call 855-5005.

Gardening at Lunch

The Columbia County Extension Service will hold a lunch seminar entitled "Lawn and Garden Irrigation" by Charles Phillips, county extension agent, on Wednesday. The seminar begins at 12:10 p.m. in the Evans Government Center Auditorium.

Golf marathon

West Lake Country Club will play host to the 2003 Ronald McDonald House Charities of Augusta Golf Marathon on Monday, Aug. 4. Sponsor and player spots are available. Golfers will play 54 holes for the best 18-hole score for prizes.
