Dozier is Secretary of the Year
Beverly Dozier, daughter of Ralph H. Dozier, received the Secretary of the Year title last week at a formal banquet at the Old Government House in Augusta. The award was given by the Fairways Chapter of the National Secretaries Association in observation of National Secretaries Week.
Dozier, chapter president, is secretary to L.C. Phillips, manager of Southern Bell telephone Co. She attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. She is a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, resides in Country Club Apartments and has been chapter president for two years.

Lon Fleming to run for Senate seat
Lon L. Fleming, Thomson attorney and city councilman, recently announced his candidacy for the 29th Senatorial District of Georgia state senate seat. The 29th District is composed of Columbia, McDuffie and Lincoln counties. Each county takes a turn in electing a senator fort he district for two years.
The last senator from Columbia County was E.D. Clary. Fleming is looking to succeed incumbent John P. Drinkard of Lincolnton. Fleming has lived in Thomson for 23 years. He is a city councilman and was associated with the late J. Quinn West in law practice. Fleming represented Columbia County in the general assembly in 1923-24. Fleming was McDuffie County school superintendent for 12 years and is past commander of the Thomson American Legion, past president of the Thomson Kiwanis Club and 10-year chairman of the McDuffie County Red Cross.
Story to open new business
Lawrence "Buck" Farr Story announced recently that Friday and Saturday will be the grand opening of his new business, Story Appliance Co., on Louisville and New streets.
Story currently runs Standard Filling Station with his father, Rad Story, under the name W.R. Story and Son.
