McGraw, Johnson excel

Columbia County's Amanda McGraw and Melody Johnson helped lift the Georgia Perimeter College softball team to the regular-season championship in the Georgia Junior College Athletic Conference.

The Jaguars clinched the title last week with an 11-5 win over South Georgia College.

McGraw, a Lakeside High School graduate, came in as a relief pitcher and earned the victory, allowing one hit and striking out two in three innings on the mound.

Johnson, an Evans High School graduate, provided timely hits during the Jaguars run to the conference championship.

Camp of Champions

Lakeside High School's Camp of Champions for youth basketball players is May 26-30. Sessions for upcoming pupils in grades 3 through 5 will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon, and sessions for upcoming pupils in grades 6 through 9 will be from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Cost for early registration is $60, or $70 on the day of the camp. A camp T-shirt and daily prizes are included. The Camp of Champions teaches skills in all phases of the game. Basketball camp

The Fast Break Basketball Camp at Augusta Preparatory Day School is scheduled June 23-27. The cost is $60. The girls session is from 8 a.m. to noon, and the boys session is from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information contact Kevin Furtado at 863-1906, ext. 374.

Volleyball camp

The third annual Greenbrier High School Volleyball Camp is June 17-20, and will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Greenbrier gym. The cost is $55, and the camp is open for girls in sixth through ninth grades. The camp is limited to the first 35 girls who register. Boys soccer camp

The first annual Greenbrier Boys Only three-day Indoor Summer Soccer Camp is June 10-12. The camp will run each day from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Greenbrier High School gym, and is open to boys ages 10-14. The cost is $60. The camp is open to the first 25 players to register. The camp, which will be conducted by Greenbrier soccer coaches Alex Heider and Chip Warren, will focus on improvement of individual fundamental skills, team concepts and game situations. Campers need to bring indoor shoes or tennis shoes. For more information or to register call 855-8083 or email aheider@ccboe.net.
