In the few months since the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce incorporated, chamber officials have been planning to reach out to the community for new members who want to be a part of the initiative.
That ground-floor opportunity kicks off this week as the chamber launches its first-ever Columbia County-focused membership drive.
A vocal faction in Columbia County has long called for a stronger local chamber. Now that one has formed, its time for those leaders to put their dues-money where their mouths are.
Well start: The News-Times is proud to be the first new member signed up during the membership drive. Why wasnt Columbia Countys newspaper already a member of the chamber? Its simple: We were never asked. It wasnt until interim Chamber Director Andy Kingery came along that the Chamber actually said the magic words.

The chamber is made up of volunteers working to improve their business community, and many of those volunteers, like Kingery, are actively seeking new members during the two-month campaign. But theres no need to wait for a call: Kingery or the chambers Terra Jones, at (706) 651-0018 can explain chamber benefits and sign up new members right away.
