Sign-ups being held for livestock producers assistance
Sign-up continues for the Livestock Compensation Program for producers that did not apply during the first sign-up Oct. 1 through Dec. 13, 2002. Sign-ups are done at the McDuffie County FSA office, 226 Bib Kirk Road, Thomson.
The program assists livestock producers in disaster designated counties of McDuffie, Warren, Richmond and Columbia counties with direct payments based on the number of eligible animals owned as of June 1, 2002. The animals must have been owned for at least 90 days before June 1.

Boy Scouts holding Golf Classic
The Georgia-Carolina Boy Scouts of America will hold the 17th annual Alltel Boy Scout Golf Classic on Monday, June 9, at Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Club. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with a box lunch at noon. Play will begin with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner will follow the tournament.
The cost is $500 per foursome or $150 per person., which includes lunch, unlimited practice on the driving range, 18 holes of golf, an awards reception, an auction and tournament favors. All levels of sponsorship are available.

Marvin United Methodist Church has formed a new group called Prisms for singles or "single again" people in the Augusta area. Harlem history sought
Harlem's newly created Historic Preservation Commission is seeking photographs and historical information on the city's homes that are at least 50 years old. The Traveling Toilet was such a success that the City of Harlem's Relay for Life is adding a second toilet. Anyone can pay $10 to have the toilet sent to someone. The Georgia Pre-Kindergarten is currently registering pupils on a first-come, first-served basis.

House numbers
The Columbia County Planning and Development office is encouraging residents to ensure that their homes have their street address numbers plainly visible from the street so that emergency personnel can find the correct address.
House numbers should be at least 3 inches tall, mounted on a mailbox, be visible from both directions of the road and should not be hidden by weeds or flowers.
