Mini Theatre 'vital' part of city, not 'questionable'
Barry Paschals Feb. 9 column, Healthy diet from Atlanta, is a very unfair portrayal of the Augusta Mini Theatre. He owes the theater and the Augusta community an apology. As the citizens of this community are working together to serve and promote the good of our city, it is very unfortunate that he would address the news in such a negative and divisive manner. ... It appears the only thing he has against the Augusta Mini Theatre is that former Sen. Charles Walker saw the good that it was doing for the youths and senior citizens.

Bobby Christine, an engineer officer and judge advocate general for the 265th Engineer Group of the Georgia Army National Guard, shows off his penmanship on a bomb later dropped during the war in Iraq. Christine, an Evans resident who serves as Columbia County's assistant district attorney for the Augusta Judicial Circuit, was called to active duty in Iraq just four weeks after the birth of his son.
Black history honors
Fifth-grade pupils at Stevens Creek Elementary School participated in a Black History Month Contest in February. Pupils could enter the contest by submitting an essay, poem or visual-art piece on a black American who they thought made the greatest contribution to American life in the last quarter of the 20th century.
The Harlem Relay for Life team Super 10 is holding a raffle for a variety of items including a Club Car Ping golf bag, $99 Busby's Heating and Air gift certificate, autographed Lynx hockey stick, a quilt, collector dolls and assorted restaurant gift certificates. Winners will be announced at the relay Friday.
Mrs. Fred Hawkridge called a meeting of the Mothers Club at her home Monday to discuss how the club will spend money raised at the Variety Show. Those present decided the money will go to purchase playground equipment for the Grovetown School, under the direction of Otis Johns.
