The fish may not have been biting, but fun was still to be had at the 12th Annual Parent-Child Fishing Tournament Saturday.

Held on the banks of Clarks Hill Lake at Mistletoe State Park by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the tournament allowed area children and their parents fishing to win prizes and trophies while having fun.

"We've been coming here for the past six years and won in 1995 and 2000," said Pat Wesley, who was fishing with his wife, Marie, and two sons, Alex Bullard, 11, and Ashley Bullard, 9.

"We've been in a dry spell the past couple of years and it looks like it's going to continue into this year as well," said Wesley, of Harlem, whose family had caught only a couple of fish for the entire morning.

The Wesley/Bullard family weren't the only ones that didn't fare too well.

Theresa Newsome and her son Tyler, 11, of Evans were also having a tough time finding fish, but that didn't matter to them.

"We haven't caught anything yet, but we're still having fun together," said Newsome.

Tyler's father Barry was planning on fishing with his son, but the Navy Reserves sailor was recently called up to service and was preparing to go overseas.

"I just like to fish," said Tyler.

"I go fishing with my dad, my mom or my grandfather. I just want to fish," he said.
