Layton blood drive

The Lakeside High School chapter of Family Career & Community Leaders of America is sponsoring a public blood drive, along with Shepheard Community Blood Center on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Room 124 of Lakeside High School.

The blood drive is in memory of student Brandon Layton.

Not Just Coffee

The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce is holding its bimonthly networking event - Not Just Coffee - from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Evans Government Center Auditorium.

The topic is Fort Gordon Update with speaker Col. Thom Tuckey.

The event is free and open to the public. Reservations are requested. To register of for more information, call the chamber at 651-0018.

Stations of the Cross

Church of the Holy Comforter will have its Stations of the Cross service at 6 p.m. Wednesday on the church property on the 400 block of Furys Ferry Road, across from Baker Woods Baptist Church. This outdoor service walks participants through the last hours of the life of Christ. All are welcome to attend. For more information, call 210-1133.

Summer enrichment

The Brookwood Elementary School Counseling Department is offering a special program called Summer Enrichment Opportunities on Thursday from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Drop in and browse among displays set up by many community organizations.

Adopt-A-Stream

Adopt-A-Stream program is Georgia's statewide volunteer effort to keep streams and rivers clean. Ginny Brady will give a PowerPoint presentation to The Sierra at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Unitarian Universalist Church, Walton Way Extension. Fire department fund-raiser

The Winfield Volunteer Fire Department will hold a barbecue and yard sale on Saturday, April 19, at the main fire station on Cobbham Road. The yard sale begins at 7 a.m. and the barbecue goes on sale at 10 a.m.

The department is seeking vendors to rent yard sale tables for $5. All proceeds from sales of items goes to the owner, not the department. To reserve a table, call Patrick Bargeron at 541-0446.

A barbecue plate will include barbecued meat with all the trimmings cooked by the firemen for $6 per plate.

Y offers Easter events

The Family Y Easter Egg-stravaganza programs offer springtime field-trip opportunities for groups and a special evening event for families, at the Family Y's camp at Thurmond Lake.

The Easter Egg-stravaganza Field Trips program is open to children pre-K through fifth grade. Groups may schedule trips for Monday-Friday at 10 or 11:15 a.m. each day.

Lunch is included. The cost is $5 per person. Teachers are admitted free.
