Doctor avoids felony charge in crash that killed teenager

A doctor involved in a fatal accident will not face a felony first-degree vehicular homicide charge after a blood-alcohol report showed he was not legally intoxicated.

Dr. Mohammad Ali Behzadian, 57, will instead face misdemeanor second-degree vehicular homicide.

Two other charges - reckless driving and driving under the influence - also have been dismissed. However, the charge of driving the wrong way on a one-way street will still stand.

The charges stem from an accident that took place Feb. 28 on River Watch Parkway near Furys Ferry Road when Behzadian drove his car the wrong way into the path of Brandon Layton's vehicle, police said. Layton, an 18-year-old Lakeside High School student, was killed in the accident.
