Swimming clinics

The Aiken-Augusta Swim League is playing host to swim clinics for anyone interested in learning more about strokes, turns and starts. This will be a great refresher course for all summer-league swimmers. The clinic will be Monday through Thursday at two sites. The clinics at the University of South Carolina Aiken are from 4 to 5 p.m., and the clinics at Augusta State University are from 6 to 7 p.m. The cost is $40 for four sessions. Youth soccer clinic

The Harlem High School soccer team is holding a youth soccer clinic April 7. The clinic is for boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade. Registration will be at on the day of the clinic at 9:30 a.m., and the clinic will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Harlem High School football stadium. Swimmers takes second

Greater Augusta Swimming finished second in the Southeast Divisional Swimming Championships in Brunswick last weekend. Bennet Yort led the way by winning seven events in the boys 8-and-under age group.

Columbia County swimmers earning top three finishes for GAS were: Sarah Kim - (girls 9-10) 50-yard breaststroke (second, 43.42), 100-yard breaststroke (second, 1:28.54), 50-yard butterfly (third, 39.83), and 100-yard butterfly (third, 1:31.79); Lauren Plowman (11-12 girls) 100-yard breaststroke (third, 1:19.17); Katie Croft (13-14 girls) 200-yard backstroke (third, 2:32.72); Jacob Burr (8-and-under boys) 100-yard freestyle (third, 1:42.98); Garrett Baker (9-10 boys) 50-yard breaststroke (third, 49.38); Tyler Baum (9-10 boys) 200-yard freestyle (third, 3:23.68) and 100-yard butterfly (third, 1:53.79); Nathan Pocta (9-10 boys) 100-yard breaststroke (1:48.72); Charlie Johnson (11-12 boys) 50-yard freestyle (third, 31.68) and 50-yard breaststroke (third, 44.48); Brian Maleck (13-14 boys) 200-yard breaststroke (third, 2:46.70); and, George Patton (Senior Boys) 100-yard breaststroke (third, 1:04.33) and 200-yard breaststroke (third, 2:21.59).

Calling all cheerleaders

The Hayden's Allstar Twisters will be holding tryouts for the 2003-04 season. There will be a meeting at Hayden's Gymnasium on April 17 at 7 p.m. Team practices are April 21 (5:30-7:30 p.m.), April 22 (7:30-9 p.m.) and April 24 (7-9 p.m.). The tryouts are for children in grades 3-12, and will be held April 26 starting at 10 a.m. All skill levels are welcome. For more information, call 868-0608.
