Summer enrichment

The Brookwood Elementary School Counseling Department is offering a special program called Summer Enrichment Opportunities on April 17 from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Drop in and browse among displays set up by many community organizations.

Family Y camps

The Family Y is holding five camps for children during Masters Week, Monday through Friday. The camps are Kids' Camp, Teen Camp, Gymnastics Camp, Tubman Camp and Sports Camp. Each camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Early drop-off begins at 7 a.m. and late pick-up extends until 6 p.m.

The camps provide children with a variety of games, sports, crafts, activities and field trips. Youth revival

The Youth Department of Mount Enon Baptist Church will hold its annual Youth Revival on April 6-9, with services beginning at 7 nightly. The Rev. Larry Neal of New Hope Baptist Church will have charge of services Sunday through Tuesday. The Rev. James Freeman of Monetta Baptist Church will be in charge of services Wednesday.

Masters camp

A Masters Week Day Camp will be from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 7-11 at Martinez Bible Chapel, 634 Furys Ferry Road, Martinez. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 12. Children will participate in a variety of activities including Bible lessons, puppet shows, sports, leather and wood crafts, archery and BB riflery.

Vendors needed

The Grovetown Heritage Festival committee is seeking vendors to participate in the first annual festival May 10. Events will begin at 9 a.m. near Grovetown City Hall and the Grovetown Museum.

Dance classes

Not Just Coffee

The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce is hosting its bimonthly early morning net-working event - Not Just Coffee - from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, at the Columbia County Government Center Auditorium on Ronald Reagan Drive, Evans.

The topic is Fort Gordon Update with speaker Col. Thom Tuckey, director of military affairs at the Metro Augusta Chamber of Commerce.

Fishing tournament

The Georgia State Parks and Historic Sites is holding the 12th annual Parent-Child Fishing Tournament on April 12 on the banks of Mistletoe State Park, Appling. Registration is from 7 to 10 a.m. and weigh-in at 3 p.m.

A $5 entry fee per family is required. All fish count in weighing. All prizes, trophies and awards will be provided. The grand prize is a two-night stay in Mistletoe State Park.

Junior Ranger Program

Mistletoe State Park will host the Junior Ranger Program April 8-9 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The program, for ages 6-12, introduce children to Georgia's natural, cultural and recreational resources.

Junior Rangers take hikes, see live snakes and learn about Georgia's wildlife. They receive a Junior Ranger handbook and complete activities throughout it. When completed, children receive a Junior Ranger patch.

Adopt-A-Stream meeting

Adopt-A-Stream is Georgia's statewide volunteer effort to insure our streams and rivers are kept clean and healthy. Ginny Brady will be giving a Power Point presentation and discuss how you can receive training so you or your youth group can participate in this important program. Movie-A-Thon

Ollie's Army, the city of Harlem's Relay for Life team, will hold a Movie-A-Thon for children at 1 and 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, at The Laurel and Hardy Museum of Harlem. The movies will be PG- or G-rated.

Democrats meet

The Columbia County Democratic Party will hold their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. April 14 at the Columbia County Government Center auditorium on Ronald Reagan Drive, Evans. Award luncheon

The Thomson-McDuffie County Chamber of Commerce will announce the Administrative Assistant of the Year at the 15th annual Administrative Professionals Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at the First Methodist Church Family Life Center. A fashion show will be included.

Fire department fund-raiser

The Winfield Volunteer Fire Department will hold a barbecue and yard sale on Saturday, April 19, at the main fire station on Cobbham Road. The yard sale begins at 7 a.m. and the barbecue goes on sale at 10 a.m.

The department is seeking vendors to rent yard sale tables for $5. All proceeds from sales of items goes to the owner, not the department. To reserve a table, call Patrick Bargeron at 541-0446.

A barbecue plate will include barbecued meat with all the trimmings cooked by the firemen for $6 per plate.

Marvin United Methodist Church has formed a new group called Prisms for singles or "single again" people in the Augusta area. The group is not a dating service, but it is expected to expand into a large group to give people a place to get together with others in a casual Christian atmosphere. there will be some fun outings and casual meetings at the church on the corner of Belair and Wheeler roads.

Y offers Easter events

The Family Y Easter Egg-stravaganza programs offer springtime field-trip opportunities for groups and a special evening event for families, at the Family Y's camp at Thurmond Lake.

The Easter Egg-stravaganza Field Trips program is open to children pre-K through fifth grade. Groups may schedule trips for March 31-April 4 and April 14-18, at 10 or 11:15 a.m. each day. The trip includes arts and crafts, an Easter story, an Easter egg hunt and an environmental education activity involving live baby chicks.

Lunch is included. The cost is $5 per person. Teachers are admitted free.

Families can drop in on the Easter Egg-stravaganza Family Night from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Camp Lakeside. Activities will include a hayride, an Easter egg hunt, an educational activity with baby chicks, a hot dog dinner and marshmallow roast. The coast is $5 per person.

Lure show

Harlem history sought

Harlem's newly created Historic Preservation Commission is seeking photographs and historical information on the city's homes that are at least 50 years old. Traveling Toilet

The Traveling Toilet was such a success that the City of Harlem's Relay for Life is adding a second toilet. Anyone can pay $10 to have the toilet sent to someone. Pre-K registration

The Georgia Pre-Kindergarten is currently registering students on a first-come, first-served basis.

Only 40 slots are available and the child must be a Georgia resident and 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2003.

House numbers

The Columbia County Planning and Development office is encouraging residents to ensure that their homes have their street address numbers plainly visible from the street so that emergency personnel can find the correct address.

House numbers should be at least 3 inches tall, mounted on a mailbox, be visible from both directions of the road and should not be hidden by weeds or flowers.
