The Evans High School literary team won first place in the Regional Literary Event at Redan High School in Stone Mountain on March 14, capturing first place in six events.
The team won girl's extemporaneous speaking, boys essay contest, boys spelling, boys solo and girls solo and girls trio. All the 14 team members placed in the top four in every event.
"Evans has never won region literary and won region debate, and we did this year," said literary teamcoordinator Susan Saxon.
Jean Lancaster was the team's music director.

In January, the Evans High School debate team won the regional debate competition, the first time it has ever claimed that title. The team came in fifth at the state competition in February.
The literary team will travel to Northside-Warner Robins High School for the state competition.
"They worked harder this year, I guess," Saxon said. "I've been coaching literary off and on since 1983, so I have spelling lists and literary topics so they can practice competing. That made a difference."
