Five confiscated horses are up for auction courtesy of the Columbia County Board of Commissioners.
The horses up for auction are a 9-year-old gelding pony, a 30-year-old mare pony, a 10-year-old gelding pony, a 12-year-old paint mare and a 5-year-old quarter horse gelding.
"They belonged to a man on Louisville Road and they've been continuously getting out," said Columbia County Animal Care and Control Department Director Linda Fulmer.
"We took the person back to court for the fourth time and that's when the judge ordered us to pick all of his horses and auction them off. They've been out 21 times," she said.
Fulmer said that most of the horses are in good health.
"They're in pretty good shape. They're not skinny or anything," said Fulmer.

"One of them is really old, so she won't be able to do a lot. She could be somebody's pet. Another has a bad leg, so he can't be ridden by much more than a small child. He can't do any heavy-duty riding," said Fulmer.
The horses are available for viewing at Animal Control, 6337 Columbia Road in Appling. The department's office hours are Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays, and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.
Sealed bids are being accepted on the horses until April 3 at 4 p.m. at the county Procurement Department by mailing them to P.O. Box 498, Evans, GA 30809. Bids also can be dropped off in person at 500 Faircloth Drive in Evans.
Bid forms may be obtained at the procurement office as well.
