the March 15 Chronicle, there was an article ("Canal boat takes shape," Metro) regarding the building of two canal boats to be used in the Augusta Canal. These are replicas of old boats once used on the canal, which will offer rides beginning this year.
How sad that these two boats and related docking sites will cost $772,000. That is $.75 million. Sadder still is that they are funded by the federal Intermodal Surface Transportation Enhancement Act. That's $.75 million of taxpayers' money. When are we going to see an end to "pork spending?"
The same paper had a news item about "feral hogs will be killed to save island wildlife." The article noted that about about 1,000 hogs running wild on Cumberland Island, Ga., would be killed. We should be killing the "wild hogs" (pork spending) in Washington. Enough is enough. Let's establish some priorities on how we spend federal tax dollars.
