Most of the discussion surrounding Mike Hunt's law-enforcement career has centered on his outstanding service to the city of Aiken. I want to remind North Augustans that Mr. Hunt began his law-enforcement career as a member of the North Augusta Department of Public Safety. I had the opportunity to supervise him in that capacity and am pleased to support his candidacy for sheriff of Aiken County. Mr. Hunt has always had a remarkable enthusiasm for his work that is based on his love and compassion for the people he serves. He served North Augusta well early on and will continue to serve the entire county well as sheriff.

In addition to the many qualities others have spoken of - such as integrity, dependability, professionalism and outstanding people skills - Mr. Hunt possesses one other quality that should be particularly important to the people of North Augusta. Having worked with the three largest agencies in the county, Mr. Hunt has a perspective none of the other candidates has, and he has the respect of all of those law-enforcement officers. The nature of their work prohibits them from actively campaigning in political races, but they know Mike Hunt will be open, honest and accessible to them.
Mr. Hunt holds the key to being able to bring all the law-enforcement agencies together to support each other like they have never done before. Unity and teamwork among law-enforcement officials have never been more important than they are right now.
Crime does not begin or end at the city limits. North Augustans are very fortunate to have an outstanding law-enforcement agency serving them and protecting them. Perhaps the greatest thanks they could give their police department would be to elect a sheriff who would give them his support.
