Paine freshman receives honors

Shannon Colbert, a 2002 Evans High School graduate and Presidential Scholar, was one of 18 Paine College freshmen honored for their academics at an honors reception on Feb. 19. She was only one of six Presidential Scholars named. Colbert received gifts, tributes and a Presidential plaque.

Colbert is also a Lady Lion basketball player, the minister of Music at her church, and a member of Spirit and Truth Worship Dance Team, Glory Productions Fine Arts and CDEC Courts of Praise.

Fifth-grader wins second in 4-H competition

Brant Patton, a fifth-grader at Blue Ridge Elementary School, recently competed at the 4-H District Project Achievement at Rock Eagle in Eatonton, Ga. Brant won second place in the Central District for his presentation on air science entitled "The Principles and History of Flight."

Dean's List

Anne Stewart Mertins was named to the Dean's Honor Roll for fall semester at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. Miss Mertins, a 1999 graduate of Lakeside High School, is a senior majoring in Family and Consumer Science. She is the daughter of Lynn and Louis Mertins of Martinez.
