Parents Without Partners starting CSRA chapter

An organization meeting to start a chapter of Parents Without Partners will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, at Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Road, Augusta, in Room C101 of the Welcome Center. This chapter of the nonprofit and nonsectarian education, self-help and support organization will strive to serve the needs of single parents families in the CSRA.

All parents who are separated, divorced, widowed or never married are invited. Age of children is not a factor and custody of children is not a membership requirement.

Golf tournament

The Harlem Relay for Life will hold its first annual golf tournament March 29 at Three Oaks Golf Course in Harlem. The tournament will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. with four-player teams.

A $30-per-person fee covers registration, cart and greens fees. Organizers will award door prizes and first-place trophies.

Trash to Treasure vendors wanted

The city of Harlem will hold its second annual Trash to Treasures Market from 8 a.m. to noon April 5 in the vacant lot next to Harlem United Methodist Church on Georgia Highway 78. Registration is currently being held for vendors. There is no set-up charge to sell.

Harlem Relay for Life Team, Ollie's Army, will have concessions for sale with proceeds going to the Relay for Life Walk.

Y offers Easter events

The Family Y Easter Egg-stravaganza programs offer springtime field-trip opportunities for groups and a special evening event for families, at the Family Y's camp at Thurmond Lake.

The Easter Egg-stravaganza Field Trips program is open to children pre-K through fifth grade. Groups may schedule trips for March 31-April 4 and April 14-18, at 10 or 11:15 a.m. each day. The trip includes arts and crafts, an Easter story, an Easter egg hunt and an environmental education activity involving live baby chicks.

Lunch is included. The cost is $5 per person. Teachers are admitted free.

Families can drop in on the Easter Egg-stravaganza Family Night from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Camp Lakeside. Activities will include a hayride, an Easter egg hunt, an educational activity with baby chicks, a hot dog dinner and marshmallow roast. The coast is $5 per person.

Lure show

Harlem history sought

Harlem's newly created Historic Preservation Commission is seeking photographs and historical information on the city's homes that are at least 50 years old. The Traveling Toilet was such a success that the City of Harlem's Relay for Life is adding a second toilet. Anyone can pay $10 to have the toilet sent to someone. Steak and Burger Dinner

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Augusta's 2003 Steak and Burger Dinner is scheduled for March 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Augusta State University Athletic Complex.

The keynote speaker is former Thomson High School and Georgia Tech star running back and the Green Bay Packer's No. 1 draft pick for 1979, Eddie Lee Ivery.

House numbers

The Columbia County Planning and Development office is encouraging residents to ensure that their homes have their street address numbers plainly visible from the street so that emergency personnel can find the correct address.

House numbers should be at least 3 inches tall, mounted on a mailbox, be visible from both directions of the road and should not be hidden by weeds or flowers.
