It's natural for competitors to play with passion

Columbia County News-Times, shame on you. Or did you accomplish what you wanted to by drawing community outrage?

I was at that very same game as Nancy Battaglia (letter, March 2, Team rivalry between EHS, LHS "out of control, http://www.newstimesonline.com/stories/030203/let_letters_030203_1130_5.shtml), and Id say the game ended successfully. No broken bones, maybe a bruise or raspberry here or there.

The referee started calling a tight game because he saw the boys from both sides fighting for the win.

Is this Battaglias oldest or first child playing? Doesnt she understand the passion that this age group plays with? To her that is the game getting out of control.

As for her attack on coach Dave Morgan, how about an attack on individual boys instead - Lakeside and Evans boys. She must not have been watching so closely when Morgan and coach Brian Killips met immediately after the field was cleared, shaking hands and wiping their brows.

Battaglia should be a little more careful than to choose a public forum to attack a devoted, longtime coach such as Dave Morgan. I bless him for the many, many hours over the last 6-plus years he has spent with my boys.
