The following accounts were taken from reports filed with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.

Control box taken

An unfinished home in Evans was broken into and a sprinkler system control box was stolen, according to a Columbia County Sheriff's Office incident report.

A superintendent with Downeast Homebuilders called police Monday to report the break-in. He also reported that the criminal trespassers damaged a steel grille on the fireplace worth $100.

Deputies canvassed the area of the crime, but to no avail. It is unknown if the building was secure at the time of the burglary.

Golf car damaged

Evans High School's golf car was damaged in an attempted robbery sometime last weekend.

John Leroy Padgett Jr., a public safety officer at the school, reported to the sheriff's office that someone damaged a storage shed while prying it open to get to the golf cart.

The golf car later was found behind the football field with damage to the electrical system, door and body, according to the sheriff's report.

Vandals damage car

An act of vandalism left an Evans man with a new paint job on his car.

Thomas Jefferson Clark, 82, of the 600 block of Kimberly Place, found that someone had spray-painted the hood and fenders of his silver 1997 Buick Century white while it sat in his driveway, a Columbia County Sheriff's Office incident report stated.

The damage is estimated at $500, the report stated.

Under-construction vandalism

Two uncompleted homes in Grovetown were vandalized recently.

DeFoor Construction owner John Baxter DeFoor found damage in the homes on the 4500 block of Country Glenn Lane, a Columbia County Sheriff's Office incident report stated.

Police say $1,000 was done to the door, door frame, sheetrock and vinyl floor in each home. The $500 stove in one home also was vandalized, while the other was stolen, the report stated.
