Soccer jamborees

The high school soccer season begins next week, but Columbia County fans will get a sneak preview. Jamboree action is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Lakeside High School.

The boys jamboree begins Friday at 5 p.m., and features Lakeside, Evans, Greenbrier and Aquinas. On Saturday, girls teams from the same four high schools kick off their jamboree at 5 p.m.

Each jamboree pits opponents in 30-minute matches, with a rotating schedule of squads. The order of play and starting times is the same for both jamborees: Lakeside vs. Evans, 5 p.m.; Aquinas vs. Greenbrier, 5:45 p.m.; Evans vs. Greenbrier, 6:30 p.m.; Evans vs. Aquinas; 7:15 p.m.; Lakeside vs. Aquinas, 8 p.m.; and, Lakeside vs. Greenbrier, 8:45 p.m.

"It gives us a really good start on evaluating the players," Lakeside Panthers coach Dave Morgan said of the jamboree. "All four of the teams are pretty evenly matched, so this will give us a good idea of where we stand early in the season."
