Polio drive in progress

January marks the drive against the dread disease of infantile paralysis carried on in the nation, endorsed and sponsored by none other than our president, Franklin D. Roosevelt. Science is working continuously on new means of combating this subtle enemy of childhood.

It is the pride of every Georgian that we have the wonderful Warm Springs Foundation in our state, near Columbus, where patients may go and receive treatment, many of them being restored to health and happiness by the treatment and the healing baths of the Warm Springs. The 60th birthday of our president should bring forth a wonderful response to this noble cause.

Leah High School starts newspaper

The students of Leah High School have started a school newspaper.

All pupils have been requested to suggest a name for it. A prize will go to the person who suggests the most suitable name.

The officers of the paper are as follows: Percy Beasley, editor; Harry Morris, assistant editor; Buddie Bennett, sports editor; and Lamar Partridge and Rose Jordan, art editor and business manager respectively.

Contribute now to Red Cross

Mrs. Frank Walton and Mrs. Hulon Hatcher, with other helpers appointed, will be glad to receive contributions to the Columbia County quota for the American Red Cross War Fund.

Other teams are at work in other communities of the county. With only a few more days left in January, we shall have to speed up our contributions to reach the top.

Big congregation at Baptist church

The Rev. Joe Abstance preached to a large congregation at the Baptist church Sunday morning, and again Sunday evening.

His subject at the morning hour was "The Paradoxes of the Good Life," with scripture taken from 1st Peter 1-2. He developed his sermon in a clear, concise manner and held his congregation's attention from beginning to end.

A church conference was held after the morning service.
